Limited to no connectivity
Hi, my name is Sam and I have a problem with my home network.
My network: Modem --> router --> 3 workstations. On one of my workstations, I have a static IP address set up. When I tried to access the internet today via Mozilla Firefox, it wouldn't let be browse any site. When I tried to ping yahoo.com and google.com from my cmdpromt, it successfully pinged each site with low ms and 0% loss. I tried hooking the modem directly up to two different workstations and still could not access the internet. I tried turning off and unplugging my modem, router and workstations for 30 seconds, but that didn't work either. Any suggestions? Also... When I was looking at my processes running on my computer, I noticed "dllhost.exe" was running, a process that is normally not present under my workstations process tree. I looked up "dllhost.exe" on processlibrary.com and it said it was a critical process that should not be terminated (http://www.processlibrary.com/direct...es=dllhost.exe ). However, when I tried "End Process Tree" on "dllhost.exe," the process ended, but promptly appeared back under my process tree within a matter on seconds. I ran a search on My Computer for any "dllhost" related files and two came up, one was "dllhost.exe-474D72E6.pf" under c:\windows\prefetch, and the other one was dllhost.exe. The "dllhost.exe-474D72E6" properties show that this file was created, modified and accessed today (07/09/08), all at the same time. I've memorized each legitimate process that runs on my computer (I know, sad) and this is the first time in the last two years or so that dllhost.exe has appeared after startup. Should I be worried about this? Is there anyway to fix my computer so dllhost.exe isn't a regular process, like before my problem with my network? Any help would be greatly appreciated, thank you! -Sam PS: I am not posting from any of my workstations at my home. Last edited by Samuelb88; 07-09-2008 at 05:07 PM. |

Re: Limited to no connectivity
Try using obtain an IP address automatically instead of using a static IP

Re: Limited to no connectivity
For some reason, it's not allowing me to edit my last post.
New problem: My workstation still cannot connect to the internet. The two other workstations can connect just fine. My workstation: IP: 192.168.1.100 Subnet mask: 255.255.255.0 Default gateway: 192.168.1.1 DHCP: 192.168.1.1 DNS: 68.87.69.146; 68.87.85.98 The router: Dynex DX-E402 10/100M Router I can ping the router (192.168.1.1) and yahoo.com from my command promt but when my workstation (192.168.1.100) ping another workstation (192.168.1.101), it times out and vice versa, 192.168.1.101 cannot ping 192.168.1.100. I cannot browse the internet and I tested the ethernet cord the workstation without internet and it works fine. Choosing to repair my connection does nothing. For the life of me, i have no clue how to fix this! Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you, Sam Last edited by Samuelb88; 07-10-2008 at 12:26 AM. |

Re: Limited to no connectivity
Sounds like a strange issue because you can ping websites by name (meaning DNS and internet connection is fine). I guess you could try disabling any firewalls you might be running.
As far as dllhost.exe I am not sure about this process. I ran a quick scan of a few computers in my network and none of them had it running. Try googling the process name and have a look at what others say. |

Re: Limited to no connectivity
Are the numbers above same as the workstation that has internet except for the last 3 digits of the IP
