Networking Long Distance

I have a lodge that is approx 175 yards from our main office, where our switch, internet, etc are. The lodge is up a mountainous hill with trees in the line of sight.

What are some options I have to get our LAN up to the lodge? There's no point between the who locations where we can put a powered repeater, so if we run cable, the signal would have to may it the whole way without needing to be boosted.

High gain antennas are an option, but I'm not sure what the trees will do to the signal.

Are there other types of cabling that I can use with hardware in each side to plug into the LAN?

Thanks in advance!

Re: Networking Long Distance

If the lodge is on the same power supply (ie shares the same meter) as the other location, then a "homeplug" (LAN over the mains cable) will do the job with no need for extra cabling or antennae.

Do you have any suggestions as to which is the best homeplug on the market today?

Thanks

Re: Networking Long Distance

Personally, I've had lousy luck with the power line networking stuff, that would be pretty far down my list of things I'd consider.

If you can run a cable, run fiber with Ethernet converters on each end, it's really not that expensive. It'll solve the problem and be 100% reliable.

Re: Networking Long Distance

I like the idea of fiber...

Can you point me in the direction of where I can find/buy the fiber cable, and the converters?

Never done anything with fiber.

Thanks!

Re: Networking Long Distance

I think the whole point is any kind of Internet access in the remote locations.
