[SOLVED] Missing LAN Authentication Tick Boxes

On my XP Pro (SP3) LAN properties Authentication tab the:
* Authenticate as computer when computer information is available
* Authenticate as guest when user or computer information is unavailable
tick boxes are both missing.
Does anyone know why this might be please.
Many thanks for your help.

Re: Missing LAN Authentication Tick Boxes

it usually doesnt show up if the Enable IEEE box up the top is not ticked. Is your computer part of a workgroup or domain?

Re: Missing LAN Authentication Tick Boxes

The "Enable IEEE 802.1X authentication" check box is ticked.
The PC is part of a workgroup.

Re: Missing LAN Authentication Tick Boxes

Never did get to the bottom of this.
But underlying problem turned out to be hardware.
Crossover cable had intermittant bad connection -in one direction only.
With hindsight the symptoms pointed towards hardware rather than software.
I'm just so used to blaming everything on Microsoft.
Many thanks, A.
