Weird internet problem

Ok, I have had this problem for a while and am getting fed up with it.

I have a netgear WGR614v6 router and a westell wirespeed modem.

I have a static ip, and nice, pretty fast internet.

It works great... Except when it does not work... lol.

At random points it will just cut out... I might be playing a game, watching a video, browsing the web, or anything. Any Bam, it is gone.

I can go to my router screen and hit "test" and sometimes it make it come back up.

When that does not work sometimes unplugging the router and plugging it back in works.

And if that does not work, I pull my hair out... lol.

And either of these solutions only lasts for a few mins...

Does anyone know what the problem could be?

Thanks

Re: Weird internet problem

Could be that your router is dying. How old is it.

Re: Weird internet problem

I doubt the router is dyeing, it is rather old, but it has always done this.

I will try to update the firmware though, have not done that in a while. For some reason, it does not feel like that would help.

Thanks though.

Re: Weird internet problem

My standard RX for such issues, and it does indeed include the latest firmware update.

  1. For wireless connections, change the channel on the router, I like channels 1, 6, and 11 in the US.
  2. Update the firmware to the latest version available on the manufacturer's site.
  3. Reset the router to factory defaults and reconfigure.

Many times these measures will resolve a lot of intermittent issues.
