My router isn't working or my wireless adapter?
I have a linksys Wireless-G USB Adapter for my downstairs PC,
up stairs I have a 2Wire DSL Gateway Model 2701HG-B modem network model, it has 4 local ethernet slots on the back of the modem so I guess it doubles as a router? Anyways I don't know all the security information to use the modem as a wireless router so I am using my old router which is a Wireless B 2.4 GHz 802.11B Linksys broadband router. I have a ethernet cable running from my modem into the internet slot on the router, and from the router I have an ethernet cable running into my PC, now for the downstairs PC i have the wireless USB adapter. I connected to the linksys wireless router but this is what it says "You are connected to the access point, but the internet cannot be found." So its connecting but It's not finding the internet, and also when my PC is connected through the linksys router my internet does not work at all so I need to connect directly from my modem. What could the problem be? Thanks |

Re: My router isn't working or my wireless adapter?
Power cycle the MOdem and pc . . turn off or unplug the modem and all PCs . . turn on the MOdem and wait a minute or so for the lights to stabilize, then turn on one pc at a time to see if they connect

Re: My router isn't working or my wireless adapter?
I'd start by disabling ALL encryption and get it to connect. Then create a HEX WEP key on the router and match it on the workstation. Do not use the passphrase option for WEP, it doesn't always get converted to the same keys.

Re: My router isn't working or my wireless adapter?
I tried power cycling and that still did not work, my wireless adapter is still not finding the internet either, still getting the "you are connected to the access point, but the internet cannot be found" error.
