Everything but HTTP
Two days ago something happened after i rebooted my pc. I can not view any webpage via any browser. I CAN access the internet via other programs like IRC/DC++/torrent/messengers/games. I can log in one game but the moment it tries to load the main menu it stops and says there is no connection.
It is as if my computer has lost the ability to read HTTP connections. I have 2 other laptops on the network that have no issues. There is no problem with the firewall I have tested numerous settings. It is a specific windows problem. I ran an Ultimate boot windows CD to try to diagnose the problem, and inside that boot OS i can load webpages. So what could be the problem here? What specific files/services might be corrupt or missing that need to be fixed. I have run 2 different winsock fixing programs including one from microsoft that did not solve the problem. I should also note, that when i use Opera to try to load webpages they just load full white page, there is no error message saying not connected like would happen if im not connected. IE will give me a not connected page though. I've been working on this for two days with no success and am totally exasperated. |

Re: Everything but HTTP
Definatly Not, causes more probs than its worth. But thats just my opinion.
A lot of our customers do and they are allways getting this kind of thing.I find a lot of these "Complete" security software are a bit negligent when it comes to Malware detection. |

Re: Everything but HTTP
I had another friend look at my hijack log and he said he didn't see anything. I've been using Kaspersky, but i've had it disabled before and after this problem occured. I'm behind an AT&T gateway/router/modem, but it is configured correctly; as was tested by accessing webpages in UB cd OS. I'm thinking it may have to do with winsock... but I've ran 2 fixes and no good yet.

Re: Everything but HTTP
Also, when i tried to access webpages via safari on windows it gave this error:
"Safari can't open the page "http://www.apple.com/startpage/". The error was "unknown error" (kCFErrorDomainWinSock:10053) Please choose report bugs to apple from help menu, not ethe error number, and describe what you did before you saw this message." I've ran winsockxpfix since and it does not solve it... |

Re: Everything but HTTP
Well I just got off the phone with my ISP and they went through everything they could do to fix it with no success. The only beneficial information I obtained was, he said that port 80 on my desktop was blocked by something.... but I have no firewalls running. He suggested that maybe windows freaked out somewhere along the way and blocked it for some reason, but did not know how to help me further.... hopefully someone out there does...

Re: Everything but HTTP
Yeah i found that, i ran out it on my laptop. It says port 80 is blocked, but I can't run it on my desktop which has the problem. Isn't that checking to see if ure connection allows inbound connections on port80? like ure running a webserver. I don't think its checking if ure getting outbound connections on port 80?
