I have a Toshiba Satellite laptop which is running Win 98. I will be taking it out of town with me this week, and would like to be able to use the hotel's wireless high-speed Internet access.
I am told I can buy a PCMCIA card which will enable me to use the computer online at the hotel, but this is way beyond my scope of knowledge. Can anyone give me some tips on what I should buy? I know there's a "B" and a "G", but the hotel tells me their router is a "D". I could use some help in plain English. Thanks. Teresa |

Well, as far as I know, there is no 'D' standard for wireless networks. Perhaps they said B?
Either way, I would buy a 'G' card, as it can talk to both 'B' and 'G' networks. NewEgg has a good one.

Windows 98 and wireless
My laptop is running the original Win98. All the wireless cards I have found require Win98SE and higher.
What do I need to do to be able to use the OS that's on there without trying to upgrade? I have the ME upgrade that I can put on it, but someone advised against that. My biggest problem is I'm running out of time. I leave town tomorrow. Thanks for any help you can give. Teresa ![]() |

I think I still have one of those in my drawer. There was a time you could get it for something like $20 from Microsoft, and at the time I had W98 on a machine... You could also download it for free, but obviously those days are long gone!
