[SOLVED] Slow speeds, need help
Hello,
As my title may suggest, I am experiencing very slow internet speeds. And at times there is no connectivity at all, though it says I am still connected. This started yesterday, I am not sure when. I really have no idea what may be causing this. I went to www.speedtest.net/ and performed a speed test. Oddly, my download topped out at 26 kb/s, while my upload speed was around 129 kb/s. My ping was about 331ms. Something seems out of place. I then looked at my network connections, and found that my received bytes was extremely high. I then restarted the computer in safe mode with networking to see if that may resolve the problem. I took a better look at the network connection, just loading up this site and getting to this page I had received 1,815,424 bytes, which seems like a little much, is that much normal? I tried comparing this to my laptop, disconnecting my tower first, the first thing I noticed was that the network connection records its traffic in packets, not bytes, so I can't compare the two. The speed test results were similar with a slow download speed, topping out at 28 kb/s, and a fast upload speed of 124 kb/s, and my ping was 346 ms. This seems to rule out any computer specific problems, so I'm not sure how much you can help me. I don't know much about my modem and router, but my Router is a Netgear WGT624, and my modem is made by Westell, and has the word "Wirespeed" on it. I looked at the router, and one of its lights keeps flashing, I'm not sure what it means. I tried bypassing the router by connecting my computer directly to the modem, and this did not work either. Any help would by greatly appreciated. |
