home networking
i'm on a home network with my brother and i have recently upgraded to xp pro and he has xp home. when i had xp home too, everything was fine. we can exchange files fine with the shared documents folder and others. now he can see my shared documents and access only some stuff from it and i can't see his at all. in my network folder it just has my computer and in his it has all of his shared folders and mine. everything is setup just the way it was before. any ideas?

Re: home networking
This is the problem I had.
Sharing files between Pro and Home is tricky. I have a few tips though. 1. Make sure on the Pro machine that "simple files sharing" is ticked under folder -> view -> options (right at the bottom of the list) 2. Disable all firewalls, and re set up the network making sure the IP addresses are set up properly. 3. Make sure they both have the same subnet mask, default gateway, and workgroup name. I just kept fiddling and then it worked for me. Hope this is of some help. Cripple. |

Re: home networking
Yeah it sounds like a firewall issue. make sure file and printer sharing is ticked in the exceptions tab within windows firewall. (accessed through control panel).

Re: home networking
thanks for the replys. when i had xp home, we both had bitdefender total security, now i got avg and i have no idea how to configure the firewall on it. my windows firewall is off. his xp home connects through my computer to the internet and we gotta be on the same workgroup because he can see and transfer files to my computer. thanks. i'll keep playing with it.

Re: home networking
Is it AVG free or AVG internet security you have?
