xp to vista and video streaming

hi, i am awaiting a new computer and i was wondering about how and if the following is possible...
computer 1: windows xp pro
computer 2: windows vista ultimate

i want to network the pcs wirelessly and have complete access between the 2 pcs. And also i want to be able to access video on 1 pc that is stored on the other pc but without having to copy the files, like video streaming.

You should be able to just open the files over the windows share (after sharing the drives over the network).

Do you have a router for these PCs to connect to? That simplifies things, but I believe it's also possible to network them ad-hoc and still achieve the same result. When in doubt, google :)

Re: xp to vista and video streaming

yeah you can do wat fox sayz, but steaming over a wireless link might give you jitter and bad quality. If you can use wires. I do this at home with a wired, 1Gbps link and I still get jitter now and then.

Re: xp to vista and video streaming

It really depends on the link quality and the bitrate of the video - if you're passing xvid encoded, medium resolution video over a good quailty wireless link, it will probably be fine. Otherwise, without wires, you might need to look towards a different solution, like a range extender or maybe upgrading to a MIMO or Wireless N device for the increased speed.

Re: xp to vista and video streaming

Oh, really? That's a shame... maybe a system with winamp and NSV (nullsoft streaming video) might be a better option since it buffers what it plays.
