My computer keeps disconnecting.
Okay, I have a problem with my wireless, but it is only a problem with my computer.
On my ps3 console, a laptop and the main pc with the router everything is fine, never any problems but when I use this computer which is upstairs from the router it goes all odd. Another odd thing is that this has only started happening since xmas, I have since put up with it but fed up now of it. I use a wireless adapter which I have been using since before xmas and it worked fine then, I can still surf the web but sometimes when I go on a page it says connection was reset and when I look for servers in my online games, counterstrike etc, it cannot find any, says not responding. Should I buy another adapter, really at a dead end so if you came up with a solution to this I would be REALLY grateful. If you need any more info, please ask. |

I had a similar problem. To fix it I went into my internet settings via the control panel and manualy set the DNS.
208.67.222.222 208.67.220.220 Source: opendns.com If this fails then we can establish that it is not a dns problem, if you try pinging a site and it's succesful then it's your dns, you should hope its that simple to fix! |

Re: My computer keeps disconnecting.
1. Try using another wireless adaptor
2. Try connecting via ethernet cable (an see if the connection drops out, if it does, your router could be fooked) 3. Reinstall the drivers for the wireless adaptors. Those are all simple things you can try. Cripple. |

Re: My computer keeps disconnecting.
Do I try that DNS method with the computer with the router or with the computer having problems?
I think the wireless connection itself is fine, it just doesnt seem that good with my PC, works fine for all other devices, I even put the laptop in front of the computer in question and it worked fine then, so signal is okay. Thanks for answers, appreciate it, hope this will work. |

Quote:
1. Start -> Run (Command Prompt) 2. Type in ping http://google.com/ and hit return 3. If ping returns as successful it is a DNS problem if not it's a more complex problem likely to be related to your IP, if your using Vista it can cause problems if you have internet settings so that it is set to automatically get an ip. Do it with the comp that is experiencing problems. For XP; Go to Control Panel>Network Connections and select your local network. Click Properties, then select Internet Protocol (TCP/IP). Click Properties. Select "Use the following DNS server addresses" adding the numbers I posted earlier. If you have any more trouble let us know. |
