Router Problem

I'm currently running Windows Vista on a fairly new machine, I have cable internet connection using a D-Link DI-704P router (non wireless).

The problem is that every once in a while, could be once a week or a month, when I turn on my computer it would say "Limited or No Connectivity" and I won't be able to get online.

I solve this by unplugging the power on my router and replugging it, the computer then would be able to go online like normal.

I was wondering if there was a way to fix this problem, or explain to me what is going on.

Thanks

Re: Router Problem

Next step would be to connect directly to the Modem and see if the problem continues

I've tried that a long time ago and it had no problems.

I'm pretty sure it's something to do with the router because the light indicator for the internet connection was always off (not to be confused with the WAN light, which was still on). Replugging the power would turn the light back on.

I've had this problem for ages on another same D-link router and an older computer, it kept happening and one day even if i replugged the internet connection wouldn't work, I called them up and they told me to reset and all that jazz but it just wouldn't work. In the end they replaced with the current one which has lasted alot longer.

Re: Router Problem

If it worked ok connected directly to the Modem, then is is likely the router is at fault. Frankly, I have not had good luck with Dlink routers . . You might try a Netgear or Linksys

Re: Router Problem

Sounds like a knackered router to me. Get a Netgear one, or get rid of it all together.

Re-setting it will only temporarily solve the problem.
