2 people using the net

Hi, whenever my sister is browsing the internet or on myspace, my internet always slows down... im guessing when she loads a page , her computer uses all the bandwidth it can get to do that...so my computer suffers.... is there anyway to limit how much bandwidth she uses so mine wont slow down?

Re: 2 people using the net

What is your internet connection speed? Maybe it is time to upgrade to the high speed package...

The only to achieve this is to find a router that has per-user bandwidth quota/controls and I am not aware of any make or model that supports such a feature.

Re: 2 people using the net

The Actiontec MI424WR has bandwidth limiting by connection, and some of the Billion router models do as well. I'm sure there are others, those are two that I've personally run across.

Many routers have QoS capability which may help if properly configured.

Re: 2 people using the net

Maybe I should run my internet connection through my PC and into the router just so I can control who has the quality of service.

Where one family member just downloads game mods, and another watches streaming videos, the one watching videos would be given priority. In my opinion, the best way to regulate the internet access in your house would be to have a dedicated box with something like SmoothWall or Astaro.
