Who is your ISP?
What brand/model is the Router?
What Brand/model is the Modem?
Has your connection ever worked right?

Re: really bad router experience

We could identify the problem if you could post the output in text or image form of a tracerout test.

start > run > cmd
tracert google.com

We will then be able to see where the problem is.

Re: really bad router experience

Register at DSLReports and run their Line Quality Tests. It's best to run this test with a direct wired connection to eliminate any wireless issues from the results. It's useful many times to run this test several times, and we'd like to see each of the results. Post the results link from the top of the test display page for each test run here.

The link to post is near the top of the page and looks like:

If you wish to post this result to a forum, please copy/paste this URL
http://www.dslreports.com/linequality/nil/2357195 <- sample only, yours will obviously be different!
and your IP will be disguised.

Copy/paste that link here.

Note: You will have to enable PING (ICMP) request response either in your router (if you have one), or in your computer's firewall for direct modem connections. This is very important to get the most important part of the test to run.

Re: really bad router experience

Does your connection work okay without your router in the middle? ie having your PC connected directly to your router?

Re: really bad router experience

May well be, it could also be a problem with your ISP.

Smile Re: really bad router experience

People seem to ignore me:

tracert google.com

I had a similar problem and it turned out to be a congested router in my ISP's CO indicating that they did not have the capacity to serve all their customers at peek times. They also had everyone behind a NAT router. I switched to a different ISP and was able to have my own dynamic IP without a clogged NAT between me and the internet.

Are you using DSL Wizzard?
