Limited or No Connectivity
I am trying to run a desktop and a laptop on a home wireless network. The laptop utilizes XP Home with SP2, dell wireless card, and is working fine in terms of the wireless connection. The desktop is running XP pro with SP3, generic wireless card, and displays "limited or no connectivity error" when I try to connect. Repair of the connection is unsuccessful (fails at renewing IP address). Some more specs about the desktop:
IPconfig: Windows IP Configuration Host Name: desktop Primary dns suffix Node type: unknown IP routing enabled: No WINS Proxy enabled: No Ethernet adapter Local Area Connection: Media State: Media disconnected Description: Atheros L1 Gigabit Ethernet 10/100/1000Base-T Controller Physical Address: 00-1E-90-A0-DA-60 Ethernet adapter Wireless Connection: Connection-specific DNS Suffix: Description: TRENDnet TEW-421PC/TEW-423PI 802.11g Wireless Cardbus/PCI Adaptor Physical Address: 00-E0-4C-86-F8 DHCP Enabled: Yes Autoconfiguration Enabled: Yes Autoconfiguration IP Address: 169.254.187.229 Subnet Mask: 255.255.0.0 Default Gateway: I have connected through the router to the internet successfully through an ethernet cable with the desktop computer. The router, by the way, is a Level 1. Please help! |

Re: Limited or No Connectivity
Ok. Check the configuration of the router and see if encryption is enabled. If it is, then you will need the encryption 'key' to connect to your router wirlessly.

Re: Limited or No Connectivity
Thanks for the reply. I have 64-bit WEP enabled. The desktop states that it is connected to the network (I have entered the encryption key), but states that the connection has limited or no connectivity.

Re: Limited or No Connectivity
Try disabling all encryption on the router and see if you can connect.
When you're using WEP, use ONLY the hex key, not the passcode option.

Re: Limited or No Connectivity
Yeah take off encryption and see if it connects and works.
