Vista crashing due to a network (?) problem

I have two computers connected to the internet via router. The XP computer is connected with a cable. The Vista one was connected with wireless connection, but it was slow, so yesterday we connected it with a cable. It worked, but today the computer is crashing during the boot process.
I cannot start it in Safe Mode w. Networking, only without networking. So I think the problem is either the network card or some services in Vista.
I don't have an install CD and have no install files on the winchester. I turned system restore off.

In the event viewer I have two kinds of error messages: 7001 and 10005.

Two examples:

7001: The DHCP client service depends on the Ancilliary Function driver for Windows service which failed to start because of the following error: A device attached to the system is not functioning.

10005: DCOM got error "1068" attempting to start the service fdPHost with arguments "" in order to run the service {xxx}

I don't have a clue what to do now, I am not an expert at all.

Re: Vista crashing due to a network (?) problem

you have sp1 on vista?
the error 7001, suggests its either the driver or your NIC, personally I would think the NIC,(your network card)
your best bet, is get a working NIC from another computer and do a temporary swap, to see if that fixes the problem.

Re: Vista crashing due to a network (?) problem

Thank you, it seems that the network card doesn't work. I disabled it in BIOS and it didn't freeze.

Re: Vista crashing due to a network (?) problem

It's not so much the network card not working, but more so that when you installed SP1, it caused a problem with the drivers for your network card. Keep checking back on the manufacturer's website for updated drivers in the future and you should be able to use it again.
