How about killing the ICS discussion once and for all?
How about killing the ICS discussion once and for all?
I have probably the world’s most common setup at home. A dsl connection that goes to… a desktop computer running windows xp pro (has wireless card) (has printer). and I also have a laptop running windows xp home(has wireless card). You can probably guess my question already…and since I did my homework, I can guess your first three answers. 1. Get a router 2. Get a router and 3. Get a router (you idiot). With the understanding that a router is cheaper, quieter, smaller, cooler, more secure, and can sing opera as a bonus…lets explain once and for all how to set up my system so I can: access the internet on both the desktop and the laptop at the same time, let any friends who have wireless cards connect when they’re over, share the printer connected to the desktop with all laptops, and share a folder on the desktop with all laptops. I won’t suggest any steps here, but at the end of this thread I would like to write a summery so that no other human has to learn the same lesson from scratch. If it is necessary to indicate ip address by ip address each setting…so be it. my thanks to all those who will contribute. |
