best way to increase signal
Whats the better way of increasing signal for a wireless network? I have the Dlink dir-655 router and dwl-g520 wireless card. the 2 machines are on opposite sides of the house, i would say at least 50ft apart. I never ahve more than 2bars on the wireless comp, usually its only 1 bar. Ive looked online and found a dlink usb rangebooster and im wondering what would be the best way to get a better signal.

Re: best way to increase signal
easyist and cheapest way would be to move your Router to a diffrent location, try and get it as high up in the building as you can. If that dont work you might need a relay

Re: best way to increase signal
I Would try and get in onto the second floor. assuming you live in a house and not a flat :)
fact is you are getting structural interference, you might get away with moving it to a different area on the ground floor, you might not. |

Re: best way to increase signal
its already on the 2nd floor. i moved it from the desk to the top of a bookshelf. now i get 4 bars occasionaly, but its usually 2. I guess it is an improvement cuz i dont remember the last time i saw 4 bars of signal.

Re: best way to increase signal
I had the same problem except I went from 2 bars to 0 bars and back. I ordered a Hawking HWU8DD. I had trouble getting it to work with the software on the disk, so I ended up just installing the driver. Now I get 3-5 bars

Re: best way to increase signal
Like everything there are Good and Bad , same with Routers what works in one house might be crap in the second, (i personally like the Netgear rangemax series), but unless you can get your routers for nothing it all boils down to a question of cost.
