Fried onboard LAN and now PCI card
Hi Everyone,
I've had an ASUS A8V SLI Deluxe for over a year now. Its got a nice 700W power supply, dual core AMD 5200+, 4gb of ram and a GeForce 8800 GTS 640mb. It also has two gigabit lan ports onboard. The issues is ... one day I rebooted my computer and when it came back up I got no LAN. So I fiddled with the cables but noticed that the link LED light on the motherboard (which tells you when a cable is plugged in) stays on no matter if the cable is in or not. So i flashed CMOS and all that but nothing helps so I thought it must be fried. So I put in a PCI card. A week later (ive had the computer on for about 3 days) I reboot and suddenly no LAN AGAIN!!! I plug in another PCI card lying around and its working at the moment. What could be causing this?? Voltage spikes down a LAN line? The cables are connected into a DGS-1005D d-link 5port gigabit switch. The other devices on that network seem to be ok. I'm going to test that network card on another computer to see if it really is dead. Im guessing its either the motherboard or its the LAN cable. I also moved the LAN cable away from all my power adapters and power boards, even though ive never in my life had a LAN board fail let alone TWO within a week! In the mean time...anyone else had problems like this? New mobo? New swich? Cheers |
