Referred by Security Team--computer still slow
I was referred to this support by a member of your security team. I already provided a hijack log and the person identified that I have no malware present--yet my computer has been running slow now for a few weeks. I replaced the batteries in my wireless mouse the other day, and I still need to double click 3 or 4 times to get to a site. Much too slow, as to what I am used to. Do you have any other suggestions? If you need I can paste all of my correspeondence from Reid on the Security Team. Thanks and I look forward to your response back.

Re: Referred by Security Team--computer still slow
skaden,
What's the exact make/model of your PC. What version of Windows are you running including service pack. When did this problem start? Did you install any software, hardware or change any settings or apply updates, etc prior to this problem? Are you having any other symptons - choppy audio, error messages, etc.? What type of internet connection do you have (dial-up, DSL, cable)? What type of network hardware do you have (broadband modem, router, etc.)? Are you running any Internet Security, Anti-Virus or Firewall software? If so, what product/version. Let us know. - John |

Re: Referred by Security Team--computer still slow
I have a dell computer about 4 years old running Windows XP. I am using Mcafee Internet Security Suite 8.0 for virus and firewall. I also use SpywareBlaster, AVG and Adaware, as recommended on your site. I previoulsy had a subscription to Spyware Doctor and just de-installed in the past few weeks. Maybe this has something to do with the problems? I had not used in approx 4 months and just wanted to get off my computer. I also just installed a new microstft update a few weeks back as well. I believe I am using service pack 2. The problems started when I ran Adaware a few weeks back and it came up with malware that I first quarantined and then removed. Since then the computer has been SLOW--yet I ran all the scans that I was requested and they all came up clean. I also use a Linksys router for my 2 other dell computers connected wireless--and they both seem OK. The cable connection is through Cablevision and is IO internet 100 MBS connection.
The only issues that I have with the internet is that I have to click on the mouse 3 or 4 times to get to the site--and I never had to do that. When I load Outlook I also encounter issues as well. Lastly, when I finally do get to a site it takes a long time to actually load. Any help would be apprecited. |

Re: Referred by Security Team--computer still slow
Have you tried turning off all firewalls/anti virus programs, like Mcafee and AVG. does it work better then? Turn back on after the test of course. If you do a speed test at www.speedtest.net do you get similar results from all your machines? Try a wired mouse too, same results? When you say you have to double click 3 or 4 times do you mean it acts like the double click didn't work (defective mouse) or does it trys to connect but never does (not the mouse)?
