Network Problems

I hope I am posting this in the right place since this is my first time here. I have a wired internet connection and recently got a laptop which I have set up my router for wireless and everything is working fine except for my main computer seems to be having intermittent periods of hesitation while I am browsing the internet. I have everything set up OK, but I cannot for the life of me get the two computers networked together. I work from home and would like to access my work files from my laptop. I have tried everything. So, I guess I have a two-part problem. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Please supply the following info, exact make and models of the equipment please.

What country are you located in.
Name of your ISP (Internet Service Provider).
What is the expected Upstream/Downstream speed for your ISP Connection?
Make and exact model of the broadband modem.
Make and exact model and hardware version of the router (if a separate unit).
Model numbers can usually be obtained from the label on the device.
Connection type, wired or wireless.
If wireless, encryption used, (none, WEP, WPA, or WPA2)
Make and model of your computer.
Version and patch level of Windows on all affected machines, i.e. XP-Home (or XP-Pro), SP1-SP2, Vista, etc.
The Internet Browser in use, IE, Firefox, Opera, etc.




Please give an exact description of your problem symptoms, including the exact text of any error messages.

If you're using a wireless connection, have you tried a direct connection with a cable to see if that changes the symptoms?

If there are other computers on the same network, are they experiencing the same issue, or do they function normally?




On each computer, I'd also like to see this:

Hold the Windows key and press R, then type CMD to open a command prompt:

Type the following commands:

PING 216.109.112.135

PING yahoo.com

NBTSTAT -n

IPCONFIG /ALL

Right click in the command window and choose Select All, then hit Enter.
Paste the results in a message here.

If you are on a machine with no network connection, use a floppy, USB disk, or a CD-RW disk to transfer a text file with the information to allow pasting it here.

I will try to answer the questions :)

I am in the U.S.
My ISP is Comcast.
My expected download speed is 12 mb (not sure about upload)
I have an Arris broadband modem
A Linksys WRT54G with WPA2 encryption
My wired connection with my main desktop computer, I run Windows XP on it and I have a second partition with Linux on it.
My wireless connection is with my laptop that has VISTA on it.
My laptop is a Dell Inspirion 1525.
I also have a Vonage connection.

That other information in DOS I am kind of hesitant to post here because isn't that giving out private information?

I have tried connecting the two computers together using the windows wizard and have also went online to get other information without success. It seems like it won't let me share files because of the names of the computers (if that makes sense).

Without diagnostic information, I don't know what I can do to help you. I'm not asking for anything that is a security risk, and we do this every day here, many times.
