[SOLVED] Help Connecting-> IP Address can't renew
Ok, I have no clue why my internet isn't working. A while back my internet wasn't working, as well as my cd drive, and my usbs and I reinstalled windows on my computer because a verizon telephone guy told me it would fix it. So I reset my computer to factory condition. Alas, my internet did not work. After about 30 minutes of trying to fix it, I threw my computer into my closet and didn't use it for upwards of a month. One day I decided I'd give fixing it another shot, and as soon as I set it all back up, everything is working again; I didn't do anything to fix it, but I could now get on the internet, and use my usbs and cd drive.
Then two days ago, the power went off in half of my house, including my room, and my parents got some people to fix it. I don't know what they did, but now my internet isn't working again. It works on all the other computers, but not mine. I'm connecting through LAN, and when i try to repair it fails at renewing the IP address. When i type ipconfig /all an empty black box flashes for about a second and then disappears. Anyone know whats wrong or what i can do? P.S. Messed up the command. Here is the ipconfig /all info I take that back, I'm a computer idiot. I didn't type cmd before I typed ipconfig /all. So it says: Windows IP Config Primary dns suffix: (blank) node type: unknown IP routing enabled: no Wins proxy enabled: no Ethernet Adapter Local Area Connection connection specific dns suffix: (blank) description: VIA Rhine II Fast Ethernet Adapter physical address: 00-11-D8-C5-3B-5E dhcp enabled: yes autoconfig enable: yes autoconfig ip: 169.254.11.163 subnet mask: 255.255.0.0 default gateway: 169.254.11.163 Last edited by dylmurhaha; 05-18-2008 at 06:06 PM. |

Re: Help Connecting-> IP Address can't renew
are you 'wired' or 'wireless'? do you have a firewall, router, etc?

Re: Help Connecting-> IP Address can't renew
if you are wired to a router, you can see if there is a blinking LED corresponding to the port where you are connected. also at the task bar you should see a network icon saying if you have a LAN connection or not. anything on these two?

Re: Help Connecting-> IP Address can't renew
The light assigned to the port I'm connected in is green and is solid, blinking periodically. As for the LAN connection, do you mean check on the computer I'm on now or the computer I'm trying to fix? As for the computer I'm trying to fix, it says 'limited or no connectivity' (on the LAN), and when I try to repair it fails at renewing ip address. If you want me to look on the computer I'm on now, i don't know how because it is a mac

Re: Help Connecting-> IP Address can't renew
i am referring to the computer you are fixing. so router corresponding LED is blinking/ON and LAN connection says it has limited or no connection. it does not say 'network cable unplugged', right?

Re: Help Connecting-> IP Address can't renew
if there are other 'working' computers there, check their IPCONFIG and compare them to yours.

Re: Help Connecting-> IP Address can't renew
just like what you did with IPCONFIG... but instead use this command:
netsh int ip reset c:\resetlog.txt

Re: Help Connecting-> IP Address can't renew
nothing happened. i typed in verbatim netsh int ip reset c:\resetlog.txt and then also tried a forward slash, but it just paused for a second and then went to the next line in the cmd window
