Re: Help With "Limited or No Connectivity" Problem
kfxridder480,
Something has obviously gone wrong on the PC you're having problems with. Have you tried the obvious - replacing or swapping the cable on the machine that's no longer connecting? It's worth a try. Have you installed anything on the problem PC (i.e. new software, hardware, drivers, etc.)? Do you have anti-virus software running on the problem PC? If so, what software/version? Do this, Click Start, Run, type 'command' (without quotes) on the problem PC then click OK. At the command prompt type: IPCONFIG /ALL > C:\ipconfigpc1.txt press <Enter> then type: EXIT press <Enter> Browse to your C: drive and open up ipconfigpc1.txt. Select ALL of the text, click Edit, Copy, then Edit Paste that text in your reply here. Do the Same with the WORKING PC - but type IPCONFIG /ALL > c:\ipconfigpc2.txt press <Enter> then type: EXIT press <Enter> Locate ipconfigpc2.txt, open this file, select all the text, click Edit, Copy, then Edit, Paste this text in a reply as well. This will help me understand what's going on with the IP configurations of both the problematic and working PCs. Hopefully, it's something simple. Just need some more info to assist you. - John

Re: Help With "Limited or No Connectivity" Problem
Please supply the following info, exact make and models of the equipment please.
What country are you located in. Name of your ISP (Internet Service Provider). What is the expected Upstream/Downstream speed for your ISP Connection? Make and exact model of the broadband modem. Make and exact model of the router (if a separate unit). Model numbers can usually be obtained from the label on the device. Connection type, wired or wireless. If wireless, encryption used, (none, WEP, WPA, or WPA2) Make and model of your computer. Version and patch level of Windows on all affected machines, i.e. XP-Home (or XP-Pro), SP1-SP2, Vista, etc. The Internet Browser in use, IE, Firefox, Opera, etc. Please give an exact description of your problem symptoms, including the exact text of any error messages. If you're using a wireless connection, have you tried a direct connection with a cable to see if that changes the symptoms? If there are other computers on the same network, are they experiencing the same issue, or do they function normally? On any affected computer, I'd also like to see this: Hold the Windows key and press R, then type CMD to open a command prompt: Type the following commands: PING 216.109.112.135 PING yahoo.com NBTSTAT -n IPCONFIG /ALL Right click in the command window and choose Select All, then hit Enter. Paste the results in a message here. If you are on a machine with no network connection, use a floppy, USB disk, or a CD-RW disk to transfer a text file with the information to allow pasting it here.

Re: Help With "Limited or No Connectivity" Problem
I've merged the two threads, please do NOT post multiple threads on the same topic. It just creates work for the staff here and dilutes our ability to assist those in need.

Re: Help With "Limited or No Connectivity" Problem
First off, ICS appears to be enabled on both of these machines, that's not right.

Re: Help With "Limited or No Connectivity" Problem
Whoa there, i totally misread this guys IPconfig/all...
He's running an ehternet cable connection? well then WEP keys and encryption don't apply, because WEP and WPA only apply to wireless connections. So scratch the WEP key issue... Yes, do try replacing the cable. Also try changing the port on the router the ethernet connection is plugged into... If it comes down to it, you may have to replace the router + ethernet cable... ![]() |
