network Vista home premium to xp sp2 home edition
hi, I'm newbie in networking. I have 2 pc, one is with window vista home premium & 1 is w/ win xp sp2 home edition. both are connected to the internet through network hub with 8 ports. and i bought a HP C5238 all in one series with ethernet port. i want to use the ethernet port for sharing the printer in my network. How this can be done? do i have to make a server and how it is? Please any help will be gratefully appreciated...

Re: network Vista home premium to xp sp2 home edition
jhomicks,
You don't need a dedicated server. Both PCs need to be on the same network. Both need to be set up on the same Workgroup. The users who need to share files, folders, printers on the other PC, should have the SAME username and password on BOTH PCs. Any Firewall or security software on both PCs should allow open access to the local network addresses and open access to Windows File Sharing/SMB/Netbios. Windows File Sharing should be installed, enabled and configured on BOTH PCs. With all of this in place - you should be able to access shared files, folders and printers to-from either PC (Vista or XP). - John
