Networking issues

I just reinstalled windows xp home edition onto my notebook, a dell inspiron 8600 i believe, and i can't connect to the internet now. When i go to control panel, network connections the only thing it shows is 1394 connection, no wired or wireless connections. How do i get either one on there? If you could help i'd greatly appreciate it.

You didn't install the drivers for the chipset or network. Using the service tag #, go to the Dell support pages and download the drivers for your machine. Why didn't you restore with the version that came with the machine, it includes all the drivers?

oh, alright, i shall try that. I just used the disk that came with the laptop. i thought it was the same version. too late now. thanks though.
