access permission solution
8 pc's
7 connected to one dlink hub out of seven one(say x) has one ext lan card to be connected to 8th machine(say y) and one onboard connected to hub this 8th machine(y) is not part of the entire hub connection just one to one connection with this machine with 2 lancards .....now i want to share certail data with all my members and certain data with only 2 member x & y in my network connections on x i have "work","accounts","lancard connection2" work is connected to hub accounts is connected to y lancard connection 2 to internet how am i to give accesss permissions to folders and drives on ntfs file partition for this pc x i want this folder"all pc data" on my desktop to be available to everyonne and drive g on x to be viewed on only y i have created a new user "accounts" in my user group under comp administrator i dun think its off any use though which earlier served in viewing drive g on only comp y now iv managed to delete it by mistake so the permissions are gone please help me out |

Permissions on files and directories, Shares.
I am assuming you are talking about a home network. If so you are probably using workgroups. In a workgroup environment you would need to create the Same username and password on each machine or you would have to give GUEST access. Workgoups do not have a centralized user database that is why you would need to create the user on each machine. ALso You should make each pc belong to the same workgroup. |

can u please explain to me how to make a a workgroup ,and setup 7 pc's on the same network the 8 th one is not on the main hub it is jus connected to one of the 7 pc's.....wen i use simple file sharing i can share a particular folder on all the pc's bbut i also want to not share certain things with all how am i to do this

Why connect it to the machine, why not use a $10 Ethernet switch if the cable run is too far.
