network connection but no internet

One of my laptops that has been working for two years quit connecting to servers; that is, it is connected to the wireless network but when I go to the IE or Mozilla browser I get the generic cannont find server message. My other laptop, set up to the wireless network at the same time, is still working fine, so I think it's something on the laptop and not in the router etc. I tried the windows zero option approach recommended by a friend and it was either a deadend in that it didn't solve the problem or I did it wrong. Please advise. Thank you.

Re: network connection but no internet

gordon,

Sounds like an issue with the network connection and IP settings on the laptop in question. Please reply with the make/model of the laptop as well as the make/model of the router.

On the laptop in question - open up a command prompt (Start, Run, Command) then type

IPCONFIG /ALL > C:\IPCONFIG.TXT

press <Enter>, then type Exit <Enter>

Browse your C: drive for IPCONFIG.TXT, open up this file, select ALL of the text, Edit, Copy, then Edit Paste the results here. Do the SAME with the laptop or PC that's working so I can compare the two.

I'm thinking it's something simple with the network interface or IP settings.
