How do I set my LAN?

I seem to have a problem with my LAN connections...

Me and my brother tried to connect both of our computers together for a network game. The game was Command and Conquer Generals. Different CDs were used. I cant seem to see him when he creates a game and vice versa.

I already tried turning off all firewalls and anti-virus programs on both computer.

Do we have to have the same IP Address in the C&C:G options?

Do I need to configure my router? My router is a D-Link DIR 300

You clearly do NOT want the same IP addresses, that will insure no connections! All your IP addresses need to be unique, but in the same subnet as the router. Why not allow the router's DHCP to assign the addresses? You can configure the DHCP server to give a fixed IP address for a given MAC address, which will always give you a known IP address if you need that.
