suddenly passworded
My network was working fine until today, now can't access my laptop (XP pro, lynksys wireless adapter) from my server (XP home) as usual, I'd been asked for a password I never set up. My other desktop (XP pro, wired to router) works OK.
Laptop is not even password protected at booting, internet access is fine though. Tried restart of modem, router and all PC's, same thing. Ping is OK between all PC's by name and IP Is any way to find/deactivated this password? |

Re: suddenly passworded
You are booting normally to the desktop on the machine in question? I can't imagine why this would suddenly change, but you might consider configuring simple sharing on the desktop in question. Also, on each machine, apply the following registry patch.
Create a file in notepad named FIXANON.REG with the following contents: You should have 3 boxes on the bottom in NOTEPAD. 1)Filename : FIXANON.REG 2)Save as type: all files 3)Encoding: ANSI If you do not change it from txt type to All files type, then the file will actually be FIXANON.REG.txt, this won't accomplish the desired result. ------------------- Use text after this line ------------------- Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00 [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Lsa] "restrictanonymous"=dword:00000000 ------------------- Use text before this line ----------------- Double click on the file and say Yes to the merge into registry question. Reboot the computer.

Re: suddenly passworded
FIXANON applied to all computers but still the laptop problem, it only share internet.
Can't access server from laptop and viceversa. Still asking for password when trying to access laptop (my administrator password doesn't work here) From laptop get message of insufficient rights to server. No problems between second desktop and laptop. |

Re: suddenly passworded
Create a user account on each machine with shared resources with the same name/password as is used to login to the client (connecting) machine.
Note that sometimes File/print sharing is problematic if the login accounts do not have passwords. If you don't want to have to enter the passwords for booting the computer, you can configure autologin. Start, Run, control userpasswords2
