[SOLVED] Sis 900 PCI Network Cable Unplugged

I searched some of the threads on here for an answer, but no one else has the same setup I have so the solutions I saw don't help.

I just formatted my HD and did a fresh install of my Win XP Home. Now I'm getting that network cable unplugged error on the sis 900 PCI ethernet thing.

The only internet connection I have is my PC hooked directly into my cable modem via USB. I've always used this setup so I don't even know what or where this PCI ethernet thing is let alone why it would say it's unplugged now when nothing is different.

All of the proper drivers are installed for it (I made sure to do all of those updates after doing my fresh install of XP), so the driver isn't the issue and it says the device is working properly.

Here's the thing though... ... Since you can change the settings so that it doesn't show you when a network connection is having an issue on the toolbar, I don't know if I never saw that there before because I disabled it from showing on the toolbar or if it's because it wasn't having a problem before lol

I'm not having any issues connecting to the internet so I'm sure it's not even an issue. I'm just curious why that message might be showing? As far as I know since the last time I took a look in my PC, nothing is "unplugged". However... I do recall a few years back removing a modem or something from my PC. It looked like it had the telephone wire type connection. Was that it? If so, how can it detect it if the hardware isn't there anymore? I uninstalled it just to see what would happen and it detected the hardware again, that's why I ask.

I don't know, I'm just wondering what the heck that Sis thing is. Thanks!

Start, Run, devmgmt.msc <enter>

In device manager, expand Network Adapters, and right click on the SIS 900 Ethernet adapter. Select Disable and the error will go away.
