WRT54G interaction Dell Inspiron 8600 problem

Hi Guys:

I've got an Dell Inspiron 8600, Windows XP SP2, connected to a Linksys router wrt54g v2.2. I had used it for almost 5 years w/o any problem until someone decided to change my router wireless configuration from a WAP to WES security. For some reason it messed my laptop connection. My main issue is i cannot connect to an specific page from the first try, websites like gmail.com, google.com, yahoo.com, i have to access them and hit the refresh button (f5) 3-5 times depending on the site for it to load and load correctly. Applications like WIndows Live Messenger, Skype and Ares dont connect inmeadiatly and if so work with problems.
My connections drop from time to time, not only when it is idle.

The interesting thing is that my laptop works well with any other router, and any other laptop works well with my router. So it's definitly a problem with the interaction with both.

I downloaded the latest firmware for the router, and switched the security back to WAP.

I've got this problem for 3 months now and still havent found a solution. Hope someone could help me.

Thnx in advance.
Manuel.

WAP or WES? What's that?

WEP and WPA are the standard security modes for a router. What happens if you disable all encryption on the router, does the connection work properly in that configuration?

Re: WRT54G interaction Dell Inspiron 8600 problem

If i disable all encryption in my router i still have the same problems.

With the WAP and WES i was mentioning i used to have the WAP security on the router until they changed it to WES, thats where i got the problem the first time. After that i switched it to WAP, reset the router, downloaded the router firmware, tryied disabling the encryption, and nothing worked..

Like I said, WAP and WES are not security modes, so I want to know exactly what you're doing.

WAP - Wireless Access Point
WES - "I have no idea"
