internet connectivety problem?

I have had this problem for a long while now. I was getting help on another forum and ultimately got told to re-installed.
Well I'd rather TRY and fix it.
It seems my computer has a connectivety issue, everyone swears I have a firewall on. I say absolutely not. I was told that MAYBE when I uninstalled something(norten)it didn't all get removed and could be causing a problem. I have ran 100 malware scans so that can't be it and 2 online virus scanners.
I can actually surf freely over the net and play browser based games and do plenty of things.
But my isp provider said I he couldn't ping my puter,i was like oh great. So it seems when a prgram tries to reach me its not going through I have ttried so many logical things and can't seem to figure it out then I ran a diagnostic and got this:Show Saved Files

Go to this address, download and run the norton removal tool:

http://service1.symantec.com/SUPPORT...nsf&view=docid

Scroll down and click on the orange "Download" button.

In those logs, your PC is pinging the router, but cannot ping it's own address 192.168.1.64. Either there are pieces of the Norton Firewall still installed and running or you've enable the Windows Firewall - which isn't a bad thing as long as it's configured properly.

See if the norton removal tool helps.

Re: internet connectivety problem?

I have ran a norten removal tool before. I went to click the download button again and it gives me a cannot display this page.
My windows firewall is off.
Back to Norten,I have uninstalled their stuff more than once then I go back and find more...iys neverending it seems, and i have had this problem for months.
So it is likely I do have a firewall somewhere going on somewhere since my pings aren't going through correct?

Re: internet connectivety problem?

dasupermom,

A few things stick out in the recent logs your posted. I would attempt to uninstall these software packages and see if your problem persists:

1) Grisoft AVG7 (AVG Internet Security DOES contain a firewall which might be installed and blocking the access to the services you describe)

2) PokerStars software - remove as this may contain adware.

3) SuperBlocker IE Add-On (uninstall via control panel, also go into IE, Tools, Manage Add-Ons, locate and disable ALL add-ons related to this)

4) Uninstall/disable SuperAntiSpyWare.

5) Go through IE's Tools, Manage Add-Ons and disable anything/everything that you've installed PRIOR to this problem.

6) Reset your IE options to their defaults

7) Download and install a DIFFERENT browser, such as Netscape or FireFox and see if you have the same issues (http://browser.netscape.com/)

Sorry for taking so long to get back with you. I've been swamped myself. I think you've got something installed either in IE or on your OS that's causing these connectivity issues.

Try these things and post your findings back here.

- John

Another thing to try might be to boot in Safe Mode With Networking and see if you still have the issue.

Re: internet connectivety problem?

okay i am like 97% positive all those things except poker stars you have noticed were put on after the problem.
I have actual had this problem for months, since att upgraded their I(I am not sure of the exact title) online protection to add norten to it,they sent the upgrades to soon and it was faulty soooo
and in safemode I still can't get into my yahoo games I want to play called spelldown.
I haven't treid using a cd in safemode however I will follow your steps and see what happens it couldn't hurt.
also when i try to uninstall AVG i get this message : Installer initialization failed due to following error:
Error: Initialization of the language file "C:\Program Files\Grisoft\AVG7" failed.
General failure.

Re: internet connectivety problem?

dasupermom,

The fact that you couldn't cleanly uninstall AVG7 is troublesome. I would go to Grisoft's website and see if they have a solution for this.

I'm thinking you have a mess of partially installed Internet Security components (Norton, AVG7, etc) that are messing things up.

Try what johnwill recommended - before windows starts booting, press and hold down F8 and boot up in "Safe Mode with Network Support". See your connectivity issues persist (Safe mode is SLOW - so don't expect much performance). If you can connect in THIS mode - then it's definately a software issue with some driver, service or software that's loading in Normal mode.

Re: internet connectivety problem?

okay so i went to safe and this time I actually was able to grt into yahoo games! I am so amazed lol
Also the pirates of the carebiean game actually gave me a log in screen.
So wth how do in figure this out? is there a way to compare the safe mode to the normal mode?
in safe mode would the add-ons and registry be different...umm and i know you guys are busy so thank you seriously so much,i appreciate the fact you are trying to help me figure it out instead of saying well just re-install windows, one reason being to easy i wouldn't learn anything two i can't find the disk(nor did i look very hard) so its definately software with some driver...hmmm can you explain that in uhh mom terms? software being like avg or ccleaner ect. right, driver though i don't understand those so well.

Re: internet connectivety problem?

Now that we have a baseline, here's the next steps.

Using MSCONFIG, start disabling groups of startup items and rebooting until it works. You'll narrow down the offending device or process, then we can figure out why it's a problem.
