Roll Eyes Connect via Windows

I have Win XP Prof, I got a wireless hub and connected one laptop with a card to wireless and it worked with few problems. I then connected another laptop Via a USB adapter to wireless, it works but each time I turn the computer off or disconnect I can only connect again letting windows find the connection. This is ok but others using the computer will not be able to do this so I am asking what must I do so this is not needed.

Re: Connect via Windows

Ex-Para,

So basically it works, but you have to manually search for and re-establish the wireless connection to that hub each time you restart the PC?

Please reply with the make/model of both the USB hub and the Make/Model of the laptop and/or WiFi hardware attached to the latop in question.

Are you running XP Pro SP2?

Re: Connect via Windows

For the first question yes, make and model of hub is BThHomeHub-7D1C, laptop is Toshiba Satelite Pro running XP Pro SP2 and the wireles adapter is a 54Mbps WiFi USB Adapter.

Thanks for the reply.

Re: Connect via Windows

Ex-Para,

Who manufactures the "BThHomeHub-7D1C" you have? Are you sure you're spelling this right? Also, which Toshiba Satelite Pro model do you own (usually M-xxx)?

Re: Connect via Windows

Bt stands for British Telecom and I have made a slight mistake it should read BTHomeHub-7D1C and the laptop model no.PS210E-006PG-4D and as for the the hub manufactures it just says made in China for BT

Re: Connect via Windows

Ex-Para,

If I'm understading your currectly, it's the USB Wireless adapter that's disconnecting - not necessarily the Wireless hub - correct?

If you're not having to reset the hub, but rather, re-located and reconnect to the wireless network on your laptop with the USB WiFI adapter, the problem is with either the USB WiFi adapter's drivers on your PC, settings with the WiFi connection program on your laptop, power-settings configured for your USB device on your laptop or a combination of the above.

Most WiFi connection utilities offer the ability to save networks you've already located and connected to. This will automatically locate and connect to the WiFi network you've configured provided you've save that connection and the laptop is in range of that connection.

I would look at the settings in the Wireless connection/discovery program on your laptop - you should find settings in there for default connections and automatic reconnect. Also make sure you don't have anything in your Internet Explorer's Connections settings configured to "Dial a Connection".
