Re: problem connecting wireless to desktop.

Hi, so I have been happily surfing the net for about a week or so, did some updates & everything was fine. Just decided to do some more updates, well I should have left well alone. All of a sudden I can't connect to the internet. This is from the lpatop running vista.
Please shed some light as to what I may have done or "undone".
Thanks much.

Re: problem connecting wireless to desktop.

Well, without knowing what updates and the exact symptoms, it's hard to say.

Let's see this again for the ailing machine.

Hold the Windows key and press R, then type CMD to open a command prompt:

In the command prompt window that opens, type type the following command:

IPCONFIG /ALL

Right click in the command window and choose Select All, then hit Enter.
Paste the results in a message here.

If you are on a machine with no network connection, use a floppy, USB disk, or a CD-RW disk to transfer a text file with the information to allow pasting it here.

Re: problem connecting wireless to desktop.

Well, you have disable DHCP on the machine, so it's not getting a valid Default Gateway or DNS address.

Configure DHCP for Windows Vista.
  1. Click on the Start menu, and select Control Panel.
  2. Click on Network and Internet. (Skip this step if you do not see this Control Panel item.)
  3. Click on Network and Sharing Center.
  4. Click on Manage network connections.
  5. Right click on Local Area Connection and choose Properties. If Windows say it needs your permission to continue, click Continue.
  6. Select Internet Protocol Version 4(TCP/IPv4) and click Properties.
  7. Select Obtain an IP address automatically.
  8. Click OK to close the TCP/IP Properties window.
  9. Click OK to close the Local Area Connection Properties window.
  10. Click Close to close the Network Connections window.
  11. Click Close to close the Control Panel window.
  12. Restart your computer.

Re: problem connecting wireless to desktop.

Hi,
I went into that 4(TCP/IPv4), and the set up was exactly as you stated above. So, not sure what else to try.

Re: problem connecting wireless to desktop.

I'm having a real hard time with this indication if DHCP is enabled!

Quote:
DHCP Enabled. . . . . . . . . . . : No
Check your Services are Started on all PCs:
  • Computer Browser
  • DHCP Client
  • DNS Client
  • Network Connections
  • Network Location Awareness
  • Remote Procedure Call (RPC)
  • Server
  • TCP/IP Netbios helper
  • Workstation

Note: You can check the services in Control Panel, Administrative Tools, Services.

All of these services should be started, and their startup type should be automatic (or perhaps manual).

Re: problem connecting wireless to desktop.

Hi, so I checked the above on both my desktop & laptop, most are started automatically, a few manually. Basically that area looks ok.
I'm about ready to fling my laptop off the balcony!!!!!

Re: problem connecting wireless to desktop.

Good morning, not sure how to tell if they are running. Saw that they are all started mostly automatically, a few manually.
Can you please tell me how to check to see if they are running.
Thanks for your patience & assistance.
