[SOLVED] Logging into home network without password
I had 2 WIN XP PCs networked & did not have to log on or supply a password to use the HDD or printer on either PC.
I added a WIN 2K PC into this network as a print server & file server. From either of the XP PCs I can see & use the HDDs & printer on this win 2k pc with no problems only after I am forced to log on as 'Administrator'. I can use the HDDs on the 2 XP machines FROM the 2K at any time with no log on password. I can still access either XP PC from the other & add or delete files on the HDD of each without a log on password. How do I set up either the WIN XP PCs or the Win 2K PC so that a log on from the XP machines is not asked for or is not needed? |

Re: Logging into home network without password
You create a user account on the 2K machine that matches each of the login name/password combinations for the XP machines. Note that you may have difficulties with networking to the 2K machine if you don't have a password on the connecting computers.
If you don't want to have to login with a name/password on the XP machines, do this. Start, Run, control userpasswords2 <enter> You can configure automatic login there.

Re: Logging into home network without password
Hi Johnwill
Your advice on creating new user accounts on the Win 2K machine solved the problem. My difficulty was actually determining what login name I had created a couple of years back when the 2 XP machines were new. As it's a home network no need for log in so never see the login name. Found it when I went Control Panel ->User Accounts. The name currently being used is shown there. I know this is old news for you but I thought I would spell it out for other people who may search this thread for clues. Do I need to advise an administrator of this forum that this thread is closed? Thanks again Johnwill. 2wartz |
