Internet Connection Password[MOVED FROM WINDOWS]
I have a wireless broadband Internet connection and I believe that this can be accessed by anyone who happens to to be close enough.
This being the case, how can I setup a password to restrict access? |

Re: Internet Connection Password
right.
go to internet explorer and in the address bar type 192.168.0.1 might prompt for username/password user = admin pass = password then in there look for Wireless Settings, Security settings. Not too sure of router but make sure you make it a WPA secured router. If it supports it WPA2-PSK either TKIP or AES...might confuse you but just WPA-PSK and choose a word that you know..add numbers to be safe.. Let me know if you get stuck |

Re: Internet Connection Password
Hello David, Welcome to TSF!
![]() I have the same piece of equipment...if you don't use the wireless connections facility with this modem/router, you can disable it completely from 10.1.1.1, (not the address that PaddyN gave you) also, disconnect the wireless antenna too. Hope this helps. Kind Regards, EDIT: 192.168.0.1 is for Lynksis Routers.

Re: Internet Connection Password
Linksys Routers default ip is 192.168.1.1
You can also do a ipconfig from the command prompt.Click Start/Run . Type in cmd and press Enter. Type in ipconfig, you will get the ip address, this is for the router.

Re: Internet Connection Password[MOVED FROM WINDOWS]
Here's the cookbook to enable encryption on that router: http://www.portforward.com/english/r...T/wireless.htm
I'd personally recommend not using SSID hiding or MAC filtering. As long as you use WPA/WPA2 with a strong random key of 20 characters, the other measures will add nothing to your security, and they just make your network harder for you to use.
