Strange Internet Connection Problems

My computer is connected to the internet through a cable to modem connection (No router).

Recently, a strange problem has been occurring. When I log on one user account, the internet works fine. However, if I switch users to a particular second account and try to access the internet, nothing will load for both users. The connection itself is still (up). All the connection lights on the modem are on, and the connection itself is enabled and working. I have tried to repair the connection, which does nothing. Neither does unplugging and replugging the modem. The only thing that makes the connection go "Back to normal" is restarting the computer.

So, in essence, the connection "looks" to be functioning perfectly fine, but no webpage will load on any browser. (IE,Firefox,Opera). It looks as if it start to load, but it never actually loads the page.

Ideas?

Re: Strange Internet Connection Problems

When you switch accounts, please do this.

Try these simple tests.

Hold the Windows key and press R, then type CMD (COMMAND for W98/WME) to open a command prompt:

In the command prompt window that opens, type type the following commands one at a time, followed by the Enter key:

IPCONFIG /ALL

PING <computer_IP_address>

PING <default_gateway_address>

PING 216.109.112.135

PING yahoo.com

Right click in the command window and choose Select All, then hit Enter.
Paste the results in a message here.

<computer_IP_address> - The IP Address of your computer, obtained from the IPCONFIG command above.

<default_gateway_address> - The IP address of the Default Gateway, obtained from the IPCONFIG command above.

If you are on a machine with no network connection, use a floppy, USB disk, or a CD-RW disk to transfer a text file with the information to allow pasting it here.
