Re: setup work network and home network on a laptop
If you're connecting from work to the home machine, there should be no need to tinker with the work network. I'm assuming that there are no unusual firewall restrictions on outgoing traffic at work, obviously I don't know that to be a fact. I think I'd consider either an FTP server like FileZilla on the home machine, or perhaps a remote control application like UltraVNC if you think you'd like to be able to control the desktop.

Re: setup work network and home network on a laptop
Well, I don't see any way to do this without some configuration of the work environment. You'll have to port forward ports and/or setup a VPN to access the work machines.
