Re: router problem: skype works but browser does not

Hi. I am having a similar problem with a Thompson tcw710 cable modem. I run a wisp in southern Spain and use the Thompson modem for our internet connection. We have had several instances when the cable modem would not pass http data but seems ok with skype, msn etc. On a few occasions the modem completely locked up and even power reset would not clear it. At the moment I am writing this post using the Thompson and it is working fine but I cannot access the web front end. We use a static ip and have appx 30 customers running through the unit. I have searched the thompson web site but cannot find any firmware updates. Does anyone know where Thompson hide their updates or know of any solution?

Re: router problem: skype works but browser does not

Even though it appears you're having the same problem, please start a new thread when you have a new issue. It's very difficult to keep two problems straight and who's working on what in a single thread.

I've created a new thread for your issue here.

Note: You will need to post complete details of your configuration and your specific issue in this new thread for us to help you.

Thanks for your cooperation.

Re: router problem: skype works but browser does not

Hi
Apologies for a bad post.

Our hardware is a Thompson tcw710 cable modem DOCSIS 2.0 compliant. The hardware version is 5.0, software is ST5D.06.19. We have our own DHCP server so DHCP is disabled. We have a static ip address and RIP is disabled. We are not using any filtering and only have one port forwarding address (80 80) for HTTP. Wireless access is enabled and uses WEP64 encryption.

The Log has the following errors but I can’t associate the errors with the unit locking up as I cannot find anyway of setting the system time (any ideas, hidden menus????)

Time Not Established Critical (3) DHCP WARNING - Non-critical field invalid in response.

Time Not Established Critical (3) DHCP WARNING - Non-critical field invalid in response.

As I said previously, the modem seems to freeze out all HTTP activity but programs like Skype keep functioning ok. On occasions the modem will not accept web access, the web reply is that the modem has rejected the request. Sometimes when this happens HTTP web access is still ok and sometimes not. We had an occasion when the unit "froze" completely (no data passing at all) we power reset the unit half a dozen times but it would not restart. We switched to our backup ADSL line and reported the fault to our cable providers. When they arrived guess what ......... it was working fine. If you need more info let me know.

Re: router problem: skype works but browser does not

How about telling us about the WHOLE the network configuration. Sounds like you have a problem with your manual configuration. Does it work if you enable DHCP on the modem/router?

Let's see this as well.

Try these simple tests.

Hold the Windows key and press R, then type CMD (COMMAND for W98/WME) to open a command prompt:

In the command prompt window that opens, type type the following commands one at a time, followed by the Enter key:

IPCONFIG

PING <computer_IP_address>

PING <default_gateway_address>

PING 216.109.112.135

PING yahoo.com

Right click in the command window and choose Select All, then hit Enter.
Paste the results in a message here.

<computer_IP_address> - The IP Address of your computer, obtained from the IPCONFIG command above.

<default_gateway_address> - The IP address of the Default Gateway, obtained from the IPCONFIG command above.

If you are on a machine with no network connection, use a floppy, USB disk, or a CD-RW disk to transfer a text file with the information to allow pasting it here.
