i need help with 128 bit wep on xp with service pack 2

i dont know what to do. i own a linksys wireless router and i was trying to to get my dell insperion to connect to it wirelessly. so i when to search for wireless internet connections it found it when i clicked on it instead of giving me a window that ask for a network key it connected but it wont let me get on the internet. so i figured it was a wep problem. so i when back to ( i think its called windows zero connection utility) to view my wireless connections. then when to advanced settings then wireless networks the to the properties of the connection. i have a 26 character key. but its only showing 8 or 10 black dots that represent the password. when i try to enter it in it wont let me save it. when i click ok and go back in it. it gos back to the 8 or 10 numbers or letters instead of the 26 digit key. can anyone help me?

First off, the number of dots doesn't indicate the number of characters. Truthfully, I'd consider using WPA, it's a much more secure encryption.

Disable ALL encryption and MAC filtering on the router and get it working. Then enable encryption as a separate step.
