Loss of Internet on Regular Basis.

This is a problem ive been having for a while, and its really starting to get on my nerves, but want a more professional opinion.

Basically, whenever i am downloading or streaming something, ill lose internet connection (But retain the actual Wireless Network connection) every couple minutes, but for only a few seconds.

I actually had to change how i download things because of this. I can no longer Directly Download things (As when i lose internet the downloads will stop and have to be restarted). So now i stick with Torrenting as if i lose internet they will just keep going once internet is back (usually within a few seconds).

Its a very large nuisance, but im not sure if its an ISP problem or a problem with my Router.

What i believe it is, (By how it has to do with downloading, etc.) is that im bypassing the Bandwidth limit set by my ISP and when i reach that threshold they bounce me down. However that doesnt make much sense as well as it will also happen when im only downloading a few files and they are all at 10-20 Kb/s.

Any help is appreciated and yes i am a bit computer savvy.

EDIT: Also wish to add that i dont believe it has anything to do with my Laptop, as it only happens at where i live, when i use a connection anywhere else i dont get this problem, only with the wireless at my house.

Re: Loss of Internet on Regular Basis.

Sounds like it is in either your router or your phone lines at home ...have you tried using your router from another location? maybe you could try from a neighbors home and if the problem persists its probably your router

Re: Loss of Internet on Regular Basis.

When I had loss of my internet connection, I had to reset the power to the modem because it kept dropping the ADSL connection. Calling up my ISP even they could tell that it was dropping, and had some idea why. I think you should call up your ISP too and see what they can see on your line that has been happening, if there is in fact something happening on the line.

If it is in fact hardware, like my router too had problems with (since been replaced), you should give it a shot and plug it into a neighbour who has ADSL as well. In my case it was all about the lights... the ADSL one would fail to show up. If the lights are working fine, then the router might not be the issue.

A thing about the downloads, you don't just have to use a torrent program. Although it is the same in the sense that it works as a download manager. Not all downloads on the internet is capable of being resumed (I bet you would hate that), but a proper download manager should do you.
