Toshiba Laptop Network Card Issues(from hardware)
Hello, I am currently experiencing some networking issues with my Toshiba Qosmio which was purchased in December. Here are the stats for this laptop:
Toshiba Qosmio F45-AV425 Hard Drive Size: 300 GB Hard Drive @ 4200 RPM Processor: Intel Core 2 Duo 2.0 GHz OS: Windows Vista Ultimate (32 bit) Memory Size: 2048 MB DDR Display Size: 15.4 in Display Type: WXGA 1280x800 Primary CD Drive: HD DVD-ROM/DVD SuperMulti Graphic's Cards: 256 MB NVIDIA GeForce 8600M GT Wireless Connection: A, G, N S- Vidio Attachment: Yes Weight 6-7lbs Networking: Intel Wireless WiFi Link 4965AGN (802.11a/g/n). 10/100 gigabit Ethernet and 56k modem. RJ-45 LAN port. The issue I am experiencing is random loss of connections that last for 2-3 minutes than randomly reconnect. I have experienced this about 10 times in the past week and has occured on three different ISP's. It has occurred when I was in rooms with other people connected via wireless connections and none of them experienced this problem (none of them had Vista though). At one point, my computer locked up and I received the "blue screen" which did a physical memory dump and quickly restarted (before I could write down any messages that were being displayed). Upon restarting, a message showed up saying there was a network stop error which was a known issue fixed with SP1 for Vista. So, I installed SP1 and am still experiencing the same problems. I have also updated my wireless card drivers etc and nothing has worked. The other thing that concerns me is that I lost internet connection once while the computer was attached to an ethernet cable too. Is it possible that I got a defective wifi and ethernet card both? If not, is there any advice you can give me on possible issues with this laptop? When I run a check on them, the computer says that both are working correctly. Thanks, Xavier |

Re: Toshiba Laptop Network Card Issues(from hardware)
I think I'd contact Toshiba since this is a new laptop. Something certainly seems amiss.

Re: Toshiba Laptop Network Card Issues(from hardware)
I contacted them and ultimately got the network card replaced. That being said, I am still experiencing the same problem (though to a lesser degree). When I picked it up, the technician said it could be a hardware or software issue that was cuasing the network to drop off. Upon doing further research I have found that the network adapter:
6TO4 Adapter is registering a Code 10. From my reading, I think this may be the problem. The driver version was from June of 2006. Microsoft is so generous to have a broken link to the download on their site and all mirrors take you to their windows update system. Does anyone know of anywhere that more up to date drivers can be found for this? I'm assuming that with all the issues surrounding the Vista 32 bit Ultimate OS, there is a more recent version of this driver than 2006. Thanks |

Re: Toshiba Laptop Network Card Issues(from hardware)
Disable the 6TO4 adapter in Device Manager and see if that helps. You don't really need it, and it's a known issue on some hardware platforms. I'd disable a bunch of stuff here, here's a page that describes the process: http://www.mydigitallife.info/2007/0...ling-in-vista/
