Exclamation Wireless issue!

Hey, I've been having trouble getting my wireless internet to work. I have a D-Link WBR-1310 router, and the IP address it keeps assigning my computer is 64.219.something.something instead of the usual 192.168.0.*
If I assign a static IP address, it says I'm connected but It still doesn't actually work. I still get the "Page cannot be loaded" screen in firefox and Live messenger won't connect. I've tried 4 different Wireless cards in my computer too, a motorola, d-link G, d-link N, and Linksys G.
Now, the problem that bothers me most, is that we have another computer (not really good enough to do anything with) just outside the room that mine is in, and it works fine with the linksys card.
I'm running Windows XP Pro, is there any way you guys can help me?

If I left out any needed details, just tell me.

Re: Wireless issue!

Does this router have a feature to manually assign IP addresses? If so you might want to try that... Ive had exactly the same problem with a wired connection and I still havent sorted it yet.

Re: Wireless issue!

what is the mac address of the device with the ip of 64.219.something.something? it may not be connecting to your computer although u think it is. check the mac address of the computer - the physical address, and check the the mac address of the device it's connecting to with the weird ip. if it doesn't match, try manually changing the mac address of the device it's attempting to connecting with at the router and see if that helps. . . . i'm pretty new but i'm trying to help

Re: Wireless issue!

I'm just wondering if there is a setting or something in windows, or a network configuration that could be making it not work. I have had wireless working on this computer, well, sorta working, it was damn slow, but it still connected. That was with the D-Link 54g card, but at my old house, but the same model of router.

If anyone wanted to know, or if it makes any difference, the IP it auto assigns 169.254.134.73

Re: Wireless issue!

That makes a big difference. 169.254.x.x is the Windows auto-config address that is assigned by the DHCP client when it can't find a DHCP server to request an address.

TCP/IP stack repair options for use with Windows XP with SP2.

Start, Run, CMD to open a command prompt:

In the command prompt window that opens, type type the following commands:

Note: Type only the text in bold for the following commands.

Reset TCP/IP stack to installation defaults, type: netsh int ip reset reset.log

Reset WINSOCK entries to installation defaults, type: netsh winsock reset catalog

Reboot the machine.

Then, please post this.

Hold the Windows key and press R, then type CMD to open a command prompt:

In the command prompt window that opens, type type the following command:

IPCONFIG /ALL

Right click in the command window and choose Select All, then hit Enter.
Paste the results in a message here.

If you are on a machine with no network connection, use a floppy, USB disk, or a CD-RW disk to transfer a text file with the information to allow pasting it here.

Re: Wireless issue!

Hey, thanks for all your guys' help, I figured out the problem, I just had to reset the router. I told my dad to do it earlier, but he just unplugged and plugged it back in, not hit the reset button. But again, thanks for all your suggestions.
