Internet Disconnect Randomly

Hey I have had this problem before but it just ended up clearing itself up, then I started having it again about a week ago and it has been happening since. My internet just randomly disconnect for about 2-3 seconds or so, and I can reconnect immediatley after. This is very annoying when Im trying to play online games. (xbox Live) It disconnects me from the game. My ISP is comcast , I have a WGR614v4 Netgear router. I tried factory reseting my router, it seemed to have cleared up the problem, but then it happened about once or twice that day and than none the next, but it has started up again. It happens quite often sometimes even 5 times an hour, so you can imagine it gets VERY annoying VERY fast. I dont get why it happens though, when im online playing, I show no signs of lag, and then I just disconnect 100% drop of internet, but only for a few seconds and i can reconnect right away. Any advice would be very helpful, I'm really needing some help here, Im not to computer savvy either sorry. I will try my best to do what you guys tell me.

Re: Internet Disconnect Randomly

First step would be to change the router's channel, this has all the symptoms of wireless interference. If this is a wired connection, I'd check for upgraded firmware for the router, then do a factory reset with the latest firmware.

Re: Internet Disconnect Randomly

How do I change the routers channel? My xbox is directly connected with an ethernet cord, but this happens both on my xbox, and my wireless labtop. Before I came here, I had upgraded to the latest firmwire and then factory reset it, and it seemed to have solved the problem. But it was short lived, the problem continued 2 days later.

Re: Internet Disconnect Randomly

Well, if a wired connection is failing, it's probably not the wireless anyway.

Does this happen with a direct connection to the modem bypassing the router?

Re: Internet Disconnect Randomly

I'm guessing this is wireless interference. It may be a new wireless network near you, and the guy with that network got tired of the same issue and changed the wireless channel before you got around to it.

Re: Internet Disconnect Randomly

Perhaps because he turns the router off?
