Gigabit Ethernet - Some computers work, others don't
First post... Hello.
After reading the title of this thread please don't all shout NIC's at me! I at first thought this should be the issue, but I am pretty sure it isn't. Background: Decided to upgrade the office to a gigabit network. Installed CAT6 throughout the office. Cable is run via a patch panel into a 24port gig switch. Tested cable and connections and everything is hunky dory in theory. Running 2 servers - File Server and Apps Server running Win SBS 2003. Every Network Card, Gig compatible (on paper) So after a long 2 weeks of setting everything up we decided to make the switch. Plugged in servers and PC's and booted up gig switch. Everything connected at at 1000mbps - Sweet. or so I thought..... Basically only two computers in the office have any benefit from the new fast connection. The first being my own which is a brand new Dell. The second is an older computer (2005) also Dell. Now this older computer is actually one of 5, which were all bought at the same time. Same network card as the rest, same NIC driver as the rest, same everything. Obviously something is different about this machine, other than spec, age, NIC and NIC driver that is allowing it to enjoy the gigabit connection, but for the life of me I can't see what it is. The other computers (which aren't working very well) are all roughly 3 years old, but as I say, have gig NICs in them. When I log onto the network with a problematic PC, I am met with an svchost.exe error stating: "instruction at "0x02c44433" referenced memory at "0x02c44433". The memory could not be "written" This gives me the option to debug or terminate. Either option doesn't seem to make a difference and sometimes the PC receives a Data Execution Prevention notification, sometimes it doesn't. The OS then reverts to safe mode automatically for anything between 30 seconds and 5 minutes. Trying to load Outlook is a no no for anything up to 15 minutes after booting, otherwise it just hangs. Also sometimes mapped drives are inaccessible, which we use to access data on our file server. Although the contents is viewable via network places which we also have set up. Sometimes the problematic PC's have the "Limited or no LAN connectivity warning". Essentially all these issues happen individually or altogether on any of the said PC's. There seems to be no logic as to why or how frequently the errors will occur. It has confused me to say the least. I am posting here to see if this resonates with anyone, and I would greatly appreciate any advice/guesses as to why this is happening. Thanks in advance, Rob |

Re: [SOLVED] Gigabit Ethernet - Some computers work, others don't
Solved....
Had to restart DHCP services.... IP addresses on the problematic PC's were not renewing. Probable cause was a power outage when the network was changed over. Cheers anyway. |
