Very Strange Networking Problem! Need Help!
Sister asked me for help on her 2nd computer @ her place. She has 2 computers which both of them are connected thru a DLink router. Both computers were fine, until a week ago, one of her PC's internet stopped working. Yes, only one of them stopped working?!
So I went to her house, first thing I checked was the network lan driver, but it's fine. Then, I reseted both the cable modem & the router and thought that might fix the problem, but nope. Then I did a straight connection from the cable modem straight to the PC that the internet stopped working, nope too! I also uninstalled the lan driver/reinstalled again, didn't work. I tried the Vista network repair option, didn't work. I did make sure about that PC has DHCP auto./ and IP obtain auto. as well! I tried everything I can think of, so I brought her PC back to my house and tried with my Internet, router....guess what, it works right away! I just took a cable from my router to the ethernet port at the back of her PC, works right away without any configuration!!! So, I'm just wondering what else I can check? Obviously we know it's not her PC problem. What else I can do @ her house now to fix this issue?! Need Help!!! Thanks

Re: Very Strange Networking Problem! Need Help!
You need to wait at least 24 hours for folks to get here and see issues. I'm sleeping at 11:30PM, and I just got here.
First off, you MUST power cycle the modem when you change the attached device, so that's probably why the direct connection to the modem didn't work. Obviously, it's going to be hard to troubleshoot this when it's working at your place. Take it back, try a different port on the router, and a new cable. You might also want to reset the router. The make/model of the broadband modem and the router would be a big help here. When you get the computer connected and it doesn't work, let's see this. Hold the Windows key and press R, then type CMD to open a command prompt: In the command prompt window that opens, type type the following command: IPCONFIG /ALL Right click in the command window and choose Select All, then hit Enter. Paste the results in a message here. If you are on a machine with no network connection, use a floppy, USB disk, or a CD-RW disk to transfer a text file with the information to allow pasting it here.
