Wrong IP address for Internet Explorer
I have a Dell desktop computer hardwired to a Linksys router. The IP address of the router is 192.168.1.1. When I start Internet Explorer 7.0 the toolbar at the bottom left of the IE screen says "Connection to 192.168.0.1" (internet connection is never made). --- How do I change the IP address in IE to agree with my router? Thanks

Re: Wrong IP address for Internet Explorer
Hold the Windows key and press R, then type CMD to open a command prompt:
In the command prompt window that opens, type type the following command: IPCONFIG /ALL Right click in the command window and choose Select All, then hit Enter. Paste the results in a message here. If you are on a machine with no network connection, use a floppy, USB disk, or a CD-RW disk to transfer a text file with the information to allow pasting it here.

Re: Wrong IP address for Internet Explorer
The connection to the router seems to be fine. OTOH, your router is at 192.168.1.1, not 192.168.0.1, so if you're trying to connect to the setup screens of the router, you need the correct address.
Try these simple tests. Hold the Windows key and press R, then type CMD to open a command prompt: In the command prompt window that opens, type type the following commands one at a time, followed by the Enter key: IPCONFIG PING <computer_IP_address> PING <default_gateway_address> PING 216.109.112.135 PING yahoo.com Right click in the command window and choose Select All, then hit Enter. Paste the results in a message here. <computer_IP_address> - The IP Address of your computer, obtained from the IPCONFIG command above. <default_gateway_address> - The IP address of the Default Gateway, obtained from the IPCONFIG command above. If you are on a machine with no network connection, use a floppy, USB disk, or a CD-RW disk to transfer a text file with the information to allow pasting it here.

I provided an IPCONFIG /ALL in my first response to you. The information has not change, but if you want an update please see below.

Re: Wrong IP address for Internet Explorer
I'm not sure what's going on there, because it's hard to imagine you can't ping your own router!

Re: Wrong IP address for Internet Explorer
Thanks for nothing. I didn't ask anyone to anylize my ability to ping or not, although it makes for a good point. I asked about "why Internet Explorer has the wrong address" and how to correct it.
Because you don't seem to know anything about failed ping commands, I will inlighten you. This is caused by one or more firewall problems that prevent one computer seeing another. I have resolved this part of the problem but does not address my original question. This is the second post that I have attempted to get help and both times I get shuffled off to another part of the forum and never heard from again or you say "I don't know". If you are a moderator then I suggest that you remove me as a registered user because I won't be back. This site is of no value to me and obviously would never dotate. |
