Networking problem
Hi
I have 2 computers connected in a peer to peer connection. But i am not able to ping second computer. My second computer IPis 169.254.137.214 and when i put the I.P address of 169.254.137.212 and the same subnet mask i am not able to ping second computer but i can ping myself. I have disable the firewall connection but still it does not work. I also tried using DHCP but it was of no use. I cant change my second computer IP. |

Re: Networking problem
How did you connect the two systems? Since you have an autoconfig IP address, it appears there is no router or other DHCP server present.
How about telling us exactly what you want this connection to do.

I am able to Ping my PC i.e 169.254.137.212 but not the other PC I.P of 169.254.137.214 I have used a cross cable in between the two. I have disabled the Firewall Last edited by robert_wm; 03-29-2008 at 04:04 PM. |

Re: Networking problem
Failure to ping is almost always a firewall component, so I would look closer. :)
Can you see the computer you can ping in Network Places on the other computer? Can you ping it by computer name and not just IP address? For each computer, let's see this. Hold the Windows key and press R, then type CMD to open a command prompt: Type the following two commands, one at a time, followed by the Enter key: NBTSTAT -n IPCONFIG /ALL Right click in the command window and choose Select All, then hit Enter. Paste the results in a message here. If you are on a machine with no network connection, use a floppy, USB disk, or a CD-RW disk to transfer a text file with the information to allow pasting it here.
