We have 3 mini tower computers that are hooked to our network via cat5e. The cat5e is connected a Linksys wireless G router in a utility room. We have a laptop that connects via wireless to the Linksys router. Everyone can see eachother and share and we can all access the internet. Life is good.
Enter a new printer that we don't have room for in the same place as out computers. It works fine with a long USB cord but people trip on it. We now have purchased a Linksys wireless-G WPS54G-RM printserver so we can relocate the printer to another room and we all will get to share it. How can our hardwired computers print to the new printer without ahving to have the print server hardwired. Isn't there a way to send the data via the cat5e to the router and have the wireless router transmit it to the printserver? If so what am I looking for in the settings? BTW Yes I am tech savy and do know my way around computers and networks to a point. Thank you a head of time... |

Re: (Moved from Printer Support) Wireless Printing?
It should be seamless, that's the way a wireless print server is supposed to work. Networking doesn't care if the connection is wired or wireless as far as functionality is concerned.

Re: (Moved from Printer Support) Wireless Printing?
Like John said, whether a computer is connected to the router via wire or wireless doesn't matter. But you need to configure a network printer port that addresses the printserver on each computer. The software that came with your Linksys printserver should walk you through this. You can also try to do this manually via Windows control panel - add printer - add network printer, but this can be a little finicky.
