[SOLVED] Limited/No connection problem

Hi I have a lil problem with my main pc connecting to the network.

So, I have a Sky broadband wireless router which is made by netgear. The computer in my bedroom is connected to this via an ethernet cable and we have two laptops and an xbox360 connected to the network with wireless. had this setup for at least 6/7 months now and it has worked perfectly.

The problem started yesterday. When turning the the PC on I got the message "There is limited or no connectivity". I then reset the the router, unplugged the cables and restarted the system, still got the error message.

I tried the laptops and the 360 and they worked fine as usual so I dug out one of my old wireless adapters and installed that on the pc. The pc can now connect to the network with wireless but still does not work when connected directly to the router using the ethernet cable. Obviously the wireless adapter is very limited compared to the ethernet conenction so I was wondering if you could provideme me with any help.

Re: Limited/No connection problem

Try replacing the network cable. You can also try un-installing the drivers for the network card, reboot the computer, then install the drivers again and see if that helps you out.

Another thing you can do is to replace the network card on the computer.

Re: Limited/No connection problem

If still cannot connect try assigning a static IP address on your computer.

Re: Limited/No connection problem

thanks for the replies, I have tried re-installing the drivers, trying a different cable and assigning the static IP.

The warning about the limited connectivity is gone when checking the"Network connections" in control panel the computer is shown as being connected. However, I still cannot use the web or use anyprograms that need an internet connection.

I was thinking the network card may be the problem but if that was the case wouldn't the wireless USB adapter not work too?

Re: Limited/No connection problem

Please supply the following info, exact make and models of the equipment please.

What country are you located in.
Name of your ISP (Internet Service Provider).
Make and exact model of the broadband modem.
Make and exact model of the router (if a separate unit).
Model numbers can usually be obtained from the label on the device.
Connection type, wired or wireless.
If wireless, encryption used, (none, WEP, WPA, or WPA2)
Make and model of your computer.
Version and patch level of Windows on all affected machines, i.e. XP-Home (or XP-Pro), SP1-SP2, Vista, etc.
The Internet Browser in use, IE, Firefox, Opera, etc.

Please give an exact description of your problem symptoms, including the exact text of any error messages.

If you're using a wireless connection, have you tried a direct connection with a cable to see if that changes the symptoms?

If there are other computers on the same network, are they experiencing the same issue, or do they function normally?

On any affected computer, I'd also like to see this:

Hold the Windows key and press R, then type CMD to open a command prompt:

Type the following commands:

PING 216.109.112.135

PING yahoo.com

NBTSTAT -n

IPCONFIG /ALL

Right click in the command window and choose Select All, then hit Enter.
Paste the results in a message here.

If you are on a machine with no network connection, use a floppy, USB disk, or a CD-RW disk to transfer a text file with the information to allow pasting it here.

Re: Limited/No connection problem

Router model: Netgear Super Wireless ADSL Router DG834GT
Network Card: VIA Compatable Fast Ethernet Adapter
Windows XP SP2

england, UK
Sky Broadband

Error Message: Limited or no connectivity. you might not be able to access the internet or some network resources. This problem occured because did not asign a network address to the computer.

everything else on the network works fine. A wireless adapter on the PC allows me to access the network however the connection using an ethernet cable does not.

Using the same ethernet cable to connect one the laptops directly to the router also works just not with the PC
